Patty Schnyder, a 38-year-old former Top 10 player making a comeback, could be set to hit the qualifying stage for the U.S. Open.

Schnyder, who has a two-year-old daughter, Kim, got a wildcard at this week's event at Gstaad and won the first WTA match of her comeback before falling in three sets in the second round.

"I'm not going to criticize myself," she told local press at the WTA International. "I succeeded in playing two super matches at Gstaad. Obviously, I'm disappointed that I can't play a quarterfinal against a top 100 player, but it's not a very huge letdown."

Her run will still take her to around No. 230 in the WTA rankings, which should get her into the qualifying event at Flushing Meadows. Schnyder indicated that she would like to compete if she gets a spot in the qualifying field.

Having retired in 2011, Schnyder returned in 2015 and has played regularly at the lower levels since, winning a $25,000 ITF event a few weeks ago.
