TASHKENT, Uzbekistan(AP) Local favorite Akgul Amanmuradova upset top-seeded Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-4, 7-6 (3) Saturday to advance to the Tashkent Open final.
Amanmuradova will play second-seeded Shahar Peer of Israel, who beat Olga Govortsova of Belarus 7-6 (5), 6-2.
The 113th-ranked Amanmuradova, the 2005 tournament runner-up, broke Shvedova in the 10th game of the first set.
Shvedova saved a match point in the 12th game of the second set, but Amanmuradova jumped to a 6-3 lead in the tiebreaker and wrapped up victory on her first match point.
Govortsova served for the first set in the 10th and 12th games but was broken each time. Peer then prevailed in a tiebreaker and cruised in the second set.
