At this point, China’s Peng Shuai will be the only Asian player participating in this year’s Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions in Bali, the WTA tournament that is held after its Championships (in Istanbul). It features the six top-ranked players who won at least one International-level title during the season but did not qualify for the season-ending championships (which takes the top eight ranked players).

The tournament also has two wild cards to hand out and gave one to the title-less Peng, who is enjoying her best season, cracking the Top 20 for the first time at No. 16. Defending champion Ana Ivanovic received the other wild card.

The draw also includes Marion Bartoli, Andrea Petkovic, Sabine Lisicki, Roberta Vinci and Daniela Hantuchova. Anabel Medina Garrigues, Jarmila Gajdosova, Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and Nadia Petrova are vying for the last spot in the WTA’s last two 'regular' events of the season this week in Moscow and Luxembourg. If Ivanovic wins Luxembourg, she will not need the wild card and another will be granted.

If Bartoli wins Moscow and qualifies for the WTA Championships, her spot will also go to another player.
