Petkovic advances in Linz; Keothavong upsets Groth

LINZ, Austria (AP)—Andrea Petkovic beat fellow German Angelique Kerber 6-3, 6-4 Monday in the opening round of the Generali Ladies.

The sixth-seeded Petkovic, who saved six break points, next plays Britain’s Anne Keothavong after she upset the higher-ranked Jarmila Groth of Australia 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4).

Eighth-seeded Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic downed Elena Vesnina, 7-5, 7-5, while Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden hit eight aces as she rallied to beat Yvonne Meusburger 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
