In the midst of his three-set Indian Wells final against a fully resurgent Rafael Nadal on Sunday, Juan Martin del Potro pulled his white shirt over his face and most of his head. It gave him the appearance of a ghost, or at least of a child pretending to be a ghost, as if with a white sheet over his body. Such is the Argentine's self-deprecating nature, to release at least for himself all the tension pent up after a barrage of bazooka-like forehand exchanges with the Spaniard. Here's another look at his non-verbal reaction to yet another tough exchange with Nadal.
Note: It's hardly the first time Delpo has responded like this when a point has not gone his way. See this pair of images: Exhibit A; Exhibit B. Even so, he hardly despairs. He gave Nadal almost all he could handle in a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 title bout at the BNP Paribas Open, as he tried to leave the company of a couple other Grand Slam singles champs who never won a Masters title, namely Russia's Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Gaston Gaudio, del Potro's countryman. Not just yet for the 6'6" star, though.
THE LOOK My favorite ATP apparel from that same mountainous desert event was Grigor Dimitrov's Nike polo, the 1-Stripe Jersey Polo in one of three color schemes available (above and here). For the record, two of those colors are "stadium grey" and "polarized pink." More on that top here. Shame that the shirt didn't stick around longer: Dimitrov was bounced from the tournament by Novak Djokovic.
