Day 4 at the Open started calmly, with a flurry of women’s matches that had been held over from the previous evening. It ended in something close to chaos, as Flushing Meadows was temporarily relocated to the Seine. Here’s a rundown in pictures of what happened Thursday, with a heavy dose of two usual suspects, and classic subjects: Fed and La Monf:

The Open, even in its slow moments, is nothing if not colorful.

Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard acknowledges defeat. She put up a good fight against Angelique Kerber, but succumbed in three.

John Isner said he was “disappointed” that the audience rooted for his French opponent. What mattered, though, was John’s response—he fought back.
