Gael Monfils, who hit a leaping 110-M.P.H. forehand, was in rare form on Friday...

Faces don’t come any fiercer than Sara Errani’s in her win over Venus Williams.

It was that kind of day for Venus, who had her chances.

There was drama on the women’s side all day, so naturally Alizé Cornet had to get involved.

Cornet did what she could...

...but she couldn’t quite catch Lucie Safarova.

Safarova won 6-4 in the third and was pleased to move on to the fourth round of her third straight Slam.

Dominic Thiem came back from two sets down to beat his training partner Ernests Gulbis in five.

Martin Klizan pushed Tomas Berdych to the brink...

But Berdych finally pushed back in the fifth.
