Even before noon, it was impossible to tell where the line to get into see Novak Djokovic and Genie Bouchard in Armstrong began and ended.

By the time Djokovic was hitting his first ball...

...people were sitting in the aisles.

Djokovic had to stay focused to beat Philipp Kohlschreiber...

...and the oppressive heat.

It was a multi-ice bag kind of day.

Kohlschreiber pushed Djokovic in two of three sets, but couldn’t break through his defenses.

Serena Williams celebrated another U.S. Open win. “I finally made a [Grand Slam] quarterfinal this year!” she said afterward.

Are Andy Murray’s feet twice as big as his head? Either way, he played one of his best matches of 2014 to beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Murray looks ahead to a quarterfinal against Novak Djokovic. “I have good memories” of their last match here, Murray said. That was the 2012 final.

Ekaterina Makarova says she doesn’t love the spotlight, but she didn’t seem to mind this cameraman after her win over Genie Bouchard.

The often-overlooked Russian made her second straight Grand Slam quarterfinal.

Bouchard said, “I just generally didn’t feel good out there.”

She leaves without having reached the semis at a major for the first time this year.

Tsonga used a water bottle to cool down his neck.

But he couldn’t track down enough shots to win a set.

Aleksandra Krunic and her ponytail made their Ashe debut.

“I didn’t expect such a great effort from myself,” the 145th-ranked Krunic said of her trip to the second week of a Grand Slam.

A new victory dance for Victoria Azarenka? Not exactly: “I was frustrated because I kept putting my butt back [on my backhand],” she said.

But Vika saw a way through in three sets.

Krunic began the match nervously, and ended it a new crowd favorite in New York.

The shirt says it all. Wawrinka is into his third quarterfinal at a major this year.
