Nicolas Almagro came into Sunday's Estoril final with 12 titles to his name—all on clay.

Pablo Carreno Busta, six years younger than Almagro at 24, was playing his second final of the season.

​From start to finish, this was a competitive affair. Carreno Busta took the early lead with a 7-6 (6) tiebreak victory.

Almagro twice failed to serve out the opening set and led the tiebreak 6-2.

But the Spaniard shook it off and answered with a tiebreak triumph of his own, 7-6 (5).

Carreno Busta, the No. 8 seed, experienced what so many do against veterans in finals—defeat.

For Almagro, it was his first title since 2012.

He had to let someone know.

Carreno Busta also finished runner-up in Sao Paulo.

Almagro acted like he'd been there before.

Two Spaniards ruled the tour's only tournament in Portugal.

To celebrate his new reign with champagne, Almagro made it rain.
