Last week in Madrid, Roger Federer was his typical self, flowing locks under a bandana and all, but for his surprising early loss to Kei Nishikori. This week? He's sporting a new 'do. Indeed, the nearly-inarguable greatest player in men's tennis history got a haircut. This wouldn't be news but for the fact that Fed's look, his perfect dome of follicles, is so closely tied to his demeanor and personality—yea, to his entire brand. The biblical Samson he's not—losing his hair, albeit not in a balding way, didn't mean poison for Fed's play. Despite the passionate play of opponent Potito Starace (read: Adrien Brody's doppelganger), replete with just nine unforced errors, Fed posted a comprehensive 6-1, 6-2 victory in which he again waved his tennis racquet as if it were a wand in something of a shot-making exhibition from both pros.
What do you think of Fed's new short look? Says here it's crisp and trim—no shocker from him—and rightly simplified for summer and the grueling clay-court season, which for him will again culminate with another run at the French Open title.
