WATCH: The tennis world reacts to Djokovic visa incident.

The Professional Tennis Players Association issued its statement in reaction to its president Novak Djokovic’s cancelled Australian visa and subsequent legal challenge on Friday.

“Mr. Djokovic has verified his well-being to us,” the statement reads and later adds, in a show of support, “With the utmost respect for all personal views on vaccinations, vaccinated athletes and unvaccinated athletes (with an approved medical exemption) should be afforded the same freedom to compete.”

Alongside Canadian player Vasek Pospisil, Djokovic is also the founder of the PTPA, which was founded in 2020 with the stated aim of better representing player interests.

The world No. 1 attempted to enter Australia with an approved medical exemption on the basis that he had contracted COVID-19 within the last six months, a reason that was determined to not be sufficient contraindication to full vaccination by the Australian Border Force.

A nine-time Australian Open champion, Djokovic is currently in an immigrant detention hotel in Melbourne awaiting a hearing on the injunction filed on behalf of his legal team.
