Sam Querrey tells ESPN.com that he recently suffered an umbilical cord infection and underwent minor surgery. "It was kind of hurting one day, and then it started to get kind of inflamed and red," Querrey said. "It hurt to the point where I couldn't sleep, and it hurt to walk. It was kind of a strange thing. Fortunately right after the surgery it didn't hurt and I was able to play tennis."

Querrey underwent elbow surgery in June and just returned to play at a USTA Challenger in Tulsa, where he reached the semifinals. He’s currently ranked No. 116 and is trying to get his ranking high enough to get directly into the 2012 Australian Open.
