In her first match since undergoing left foot surgery in October, Agnieszka Radwanska overcomes Kimiko Date-Krumm 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 at the Australian Open.
Radwanska was told by her doctor that it was likely that she wouldn't be able to return until Miami and gave her a one percent chance to compete at the Australian Open.
"I said if you give me a one percent to play in January, I'm going to play. The worst thing for a player is to miss a Grand Slam and I didn’t not want to watch the Australian Open from home on TV. I wouldn’t be able to stand that."
In a strange occurrence in the third set with the Pole up 6-5 at deuce, Date hit a serve, Radwanska met the return but her racket snapped off at the handle.
"I was like what the hell, I can’t believe it," she said. “I've never seen it before. I was in shock." - Matthew Cronin
