Rafael Nadal reveals huge donation to Mallorca flood relief

Rafael Nadal is donating a million Euros for Mallorca flood relief, according to extracts from an interview for Spanish television.

The Spaniard had joined in relief efforts two months ago, donning boots and helping sweep up affected areas. His appearance drew a lot of attention, but some questioned whether the No. 1 had been seeking publicity.

Nadal said his participation had not been planned.

"There's those who criticize me, but I can't think about what they'll say all day," he told Movistar, as quoted by Europa Press. "I have to do what I think, and as always, to some it will seem good and to others wrong. All I did was help like any other volunteer.

"The next day [following the floods], I went to practice and in 15 minutes I said, 'Guys, I don't feel like it,' and we went to visit the people and we did it."

The local government thanked Nadal for his donation.

"It is aid from a person special to us," said the mayor of Sant Llorenç.

Nadal, who recently underwent ankle surgery, is scheduled to return to competition at the Abu Dhabi exhibition, followed by the ATP event at Brisbane.
