Rafael Nadal’s 2005 Roland Garros-winning shirt sold in auction for more than $100,000

The shirt sold for a record-breaking price, with the second-place item in the summer bidding fetching just over $20,000.

In 2005, Rafael Nadal won his first Roland Garros title in his tournament debut—and made one of the most memorable fashion statements in tennis history with his sleeveless green Nike T-shirt.

This iconic shirt was up for auction from Prestige Memorabilia since July 17, and recently sold for $113,924: a record price for match-worn tennis shirts.

Nadal made an unforgettable Roland Garros debut in 2005.

The previous highest selling price for such an item was Roger Federer’s 2009 Roland Garros shirt and shorts, which sold for roughly $95,000 (£75,000). Most other shirts in recent auctions sold for no more than $10,000.

Other items sold this summer include Carlos Alcaraz’s racquet from the 2022 Mutua Madrid Open, which sold for $20,713, and Ken Rosewall’s runner-up trophy from the 1955 US Open, which sold for $5,513.
