Patty Schnyder retires after a 17-year career and said while she loved competing, she didn’t always hit her top level. "When I was playing these matches sometimes I thought, I'm not that free. I cannot make the choices I wanted to make. And I played better during practice. It was not really the case during the matches. This is something that hurts a little."

The former Top 10 player didn’t cry in her press conference at Roland Garros announcing the move, but said that its been a an emotional period for her. "But I wanted to take a few days for this, because there are so many emotions. I cry a lot in the evening. But I have this bliss, this happiness. I like being alive."
