Tommy Robredo is forced to pull out of his quarterfinal against Juan Martin del Potro at Indian Wells on Thursday with a left abductor injury that he suffered in his prior match against Sam Querrey. Del Potro will play the winner of the match between Rafael Nadal and Ivo Karlovic.

Robredo's pullout was announced about a half an hour after Victoria Azarenka retired after three games with a hip injury against Caroline Woznaicki. Those contests were the first two scheduled day matches on the tournament's main stadium. Robredo, who said that he has a strain in two different places and is risking a tear, will also not play Miami.—Matthew Cronin
