GUANGZHOU, China (AP) -- Laura Robson became the first British woman in 22 years to reach a WTA final when she defeated third-seeded Sorana Cirstea of Romania 6-4, 6-2 at the Guangzhou Open.
The 74th-ranked Robson will play Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan in the final Saturday. The last British woman to reach a WTA final was Jo Durie in 1990, four years before Robson was born.
In the first semifinal, Su-wei defeated Urszula Radwanska of Poland 6-1, 3-6, 6-0.
Robson is coming off a successful summer. She won the mixed doubles silver medal with Andy Murray at the London Olympics, and defeated Kim Clijsters and Li Na to reach the last 16 at the U.S. Open.
