Ukraine stuns Australia in Melbourne in a Fed Cup playoff when Aussie Anastasia Rodionova loses all three of her matches. Australia's Jarmila Groth won both of her singles matches, but Rodionova lost in singles to both Lesya Tsurenko and Olga Savchuk, and in doubles to Savchuk/Tsurenko, 0-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. Rodionova teamed with Groth in doubles and the team failed to convert on two match points.

''Where did it go wrong? I guess we'd hoped to win it in the singles, we realistically didn't think it would come down to the doubles, but it did, and then we still obviously played well enough to win the tie, having two match points, but it's fine lines, isn't it?'' Aussie Fed Cup coach David Taylor told the Age. "You're a point away from competing for the Fed Cup and now we're fighting for our Fed Cup lives again.''
