Roger Federer begins his quest for another Wimbledon title on Monday, playing Dusan Lajovic in his first-round match. But before all of that begins, we thought we’d take a look at just how good Federer is on this surface.

He’s an eight-time Wimbledon champion. Federer’s eight Wimbledon titles came in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2017. His next-best major is the Australian Open, with six titles.
He has more Wimbledon titles than any man in tennis history. By winning Wimbledon in 2017, Federer broke a tie with seven-time champions William Renshaw and Pete Sampras for the record.
He’s reached more Wimbledon finals than any man in tennis history. He’s been to 11, which ties him with Rafael Nadal for most finals ever at a single Slam (Nadal has reached 11 French Open finals).
He’s also won more matches at Wimbledon than any man in tennis history. Federer has 91 career match wins at Wimbledon (91-11 overall). Next on the list is Jimmy Connors, with 84 wins (84-18).
He’s won 18 of his 98 career ATP World Tour titles on grass. Federer has won almost one fifth of his titles on a surface that’s roughly one tenth of the season means. Those 18 titles consist of his eight Wimbledon titles, nine Halle titles and one Stuttgart title.
