Karolina Muchova’s injury woes will carry in to 2024 as the world No. 8 reveals she will be forced to miss the upcoming Australian Open due to a continuing wrist injury.

“Unfortunately, the pain in a wrist came back in the middle of my tennis preparation,” Muchova wrote on Instagram. “I therefore have to postpone the start of the season and fully heal my wrist first. It’s frustrating but I have to keep positive, recover and get ready for the rest of the year. See you in 2025 @australianopen.”

Muchova has not played a match since reaching the 2023 US Open semifinals, having been plagued by wrist pain ever since. The Roland Garros runner-up was poised to cap what had been a breakthrough season with a WTA Finals debut, but was forced to withdraw from the season-ending championships shortly before the event took place in Cancun.

The 27-year-old has endured a career beset by injuries, having to miss the 2022 Australian Open a year after making her first major semifinal in Melbourne a year prior.

From a ranking low of No. 235 in the rankings 18 months ago, Muchova roared into a Top 10 debut after a miracle run at Roland Garros, saving a match point to stun Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals and push eventual champion Iga Swiatek to three sets in the final. She has not specified when she will be back on court.

The 2024 Australian Open will begin on Sunday, January 14.
