Ken Rosewall thinks Lleyton Hewitt may be one more injury away from retiring. Former No. 1 Hewitt has been riddled with injuries over the past few years, undergoing hip surgery and suffering a chronic foot injury that limited his play in 2011. The 31-year-old Hewitt’s ranking has plunged to No. 186 and he will need a wild card to get into the 2012 Australian Open.
''If he does get too many other serious niggling injuries, I'd imagine he'd have to give it a miss,'' Aussie legend Rosewall told the Canberra Times. ''He has been unlucky that he has come up with these injuries, but maybe that's because of certain elements. The way he's played so much on hard courts, whether that has had any bearing, there's always a question mark about that. I think he's the kind of player who would like to continue playing but if he has any number of bad losses, in his own mind, he's going to figure it out that it's not doing him much good.''
