Serena Williams says that she felt no pain in her injured left ankle in her first round victory against Tamira Paszek at the Australian Open. Williams admitted that she tore ligaments in her second round match two weeks ago in Brisbane, but she did everything she could to prepare for the Aussie Open, including taking a lot of ice baths.
"It wasn't easy to get myself to this stage," she said. "I just had to think positive and be mentally there. And I'm just taking it day to day. I'm doing everything possible that I can, things I've never done, just to get it better. Last night was the first night I didn't have any pain in it. I was like, ‘Okay, that's pretty good. But it is a very, very, very bad sprain…., I've done it before. It helped actually, which sounds ironic, it's helped that I've torn a ligament before, so it didn't swell as bad." - MC
