Serena Williams will play in next week's WTA event at Linz, according to tournament organizers.

During the past two weeks, Williams had pulled out of high-level WTA tournaments in Tokyo and Beijing. "Although I made a lot of progress, my doctor advised me not to play these tournaments because I was not 100 percent fit," said Williams in statement on the Linz website. "This week, I finally got the green light and am pleased to announce I will be able to play next week at the Generali Ladies Linz."

Organizers of the following week's event in Moscow have also said Williams is planning to play their tournament and has requested a visa to enter the country. Williams has also qualified for the season-ending event in Doha at the end of the month.

Williams has not played since undergoing surgery in July after cutting her feet and will lose her No. 1 ranking to Caroline Wozniacki next week.
