Maria Sharapova is adding another company to her endorsement portfolio, signing as a spokesperson for Supergoop, a sun care and cosmetics company. Unlike most of her other deals, however, Sharapova is joining the company as an investor and will spend more time doing promotion and commercials than usual.
"This is a little different," Sharapova told *Bloomberg*."This is something I see doing in the future as well. For me, it’s not about making revenue today or tomorrow, but I believe it’s a company that started on a really good note and it will continue to grow."
Details of the investment were not disclosed. Sharapova does, however, use the products herself during competition and training.
"It’s been a very seamless partnership because I really believe in the brand itself,” she said. “It started as a sunscreen company as opposed to a makeup company that just incorporated sunscreen products in their collections.”
The company plans to use Sharapova to promote its message about sun safety.
This is the first cosmetics agreement Sharapova has signed; she was previously reluctant because of the time commitments required. Sharapova's agent, Max Eisenbud, told the news agency that the Russian is looking to get more involved with her commercial partners going forward.
“The last couple years as she’s started to get near the end of her career, I began to focus on what kinds of relationships could she start now and then be with when her career is over," he said.
