Former No. 1 Maria Sharapova, who has been off the tour since sustaining an elbow injury at Indian Wells in early March, is still not sure whether she’ll compete in Rome the first week of May. Sharapova may wait until the following week’s tournament, in Madrid, to make her return.
Sharapova has been practicing in Los Angeles, but a source told TENNIS.com that she won’t play Rome unless she gets in enough practice matches next week. If she misses Rome, she may play a small clay court tournament following Madrid the week before the French Open.—M.C.
