Maria Sharapova won two singles to lead Russia to victory over Poland in Fed Cup and may play against Germany in April. The Russian has never played Fed Cup ties twice in a row, but will consider facing Germany at home in Russia, April 18-19, in the semifinals. This weekend, Sharapova defeated Agnieszka Radwanska to seal the tie in straight sets on Sunday, and beat Urszula Radwanska on Saturday, while Svetlana Kuznetsova beat Agnieszka Radwanska.
Before this weekend, Sharapova had played three Fed Cup ties, in 2008, 2011 and 2012. The Russians played twice in Moscow against France and Spain. She had never been part of captain Anastasia Myskina's team until playing against Poland.
"I love the format, I’m part of this team and playing for this nation and unfortunately scheduling does not always allow me. If I had the opportunity to play more, I would," Sharapova told FedCup.com.
Sharapova had never clinched a tie before and said that it was a great feeling. "It became really tense at the end, I’ve never been in that position and I definitely felt like I had a lot of responsibility and I really wanted to do that today," she said.
