Maria Sharapova pulls out Paris with a virus that is said to have left her with a high fever. A source told TENNIS.com that Sharapova contracted the bug in Moscow, just before Russia’s Fed Cup tie against France. Sharapova lost to Virginie Razzano on the opening day, the same woman whom she had beaten at the Australian Open. On the second day Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova substituted for Sharapova and helped lead Russia's 3-2 comeback. Sharapova didn’t want to discuss the illness then because she didn’t want appear to be giving excuses. She’s questionable for next week’s tournament in Dubai.—Matthew Cronin
