INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (AP) The home of the BNP Paribas Open has begun a project to add new practice courts, lighting and viewing platforms adjacent to the main practice courts at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The tournament, to be played March 7-20, 2011, features both the men's and women's pro tours. This year's event attracted 339,000 people, making it the most attended event outside of the Grand Slam tournaments.

Two clay courts will be replaced with four hard courts, giving the tournament 16 practice courts. Lights are being added to two courts, ensuring all the match courts will have lighting, which is being upgraded on two of the stadium courts.

The 54-acre Indian Wells Tennis Garden opened in 2000.
