Stan Wawrinka says he did not have a mental letdown against Roger Federer in their semifinal meeting at the Australian Open, but acknowledged that a spate of errors in the fifth allowed Federer to take the lead.
"No, I didn't feel pressure," Wawrinka told reporters following the five-set encounter, in which he came from two sets down and had break point twice in the fifth set.
The fourth seed pointed to an error on his second break point in the fifth game of the fifth set.
"I was a little bit surprised,” he said. “I didn't [go] back quickly enough when he came a little bit higher with his backhand. I was expecting him to be really aggressive on that shot, and he completely changed. I was too high on my legs. Then he [played] well."
