A day after upsetting Rafael Nadal in the second round, Borna Coric took out Roberto Bautista Agut in the third round of Cincinnati on Thursday, 6-2, 6-3, to move through to the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 event.

And the win is a special one: Coric is now projected to return to the Top 100 as per the ATP live rankings, jumping from his current ranking of No. 152 to approximately No. 98 (and he would move back into the Top 70 should he win his quarterfinal match against Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday).

The Croat was off the tour between March 2021 and March 2022 with a right shoulder injury, and he was ranked as low as No. 278 in the first week of June this year—now, two and a half months later, he’s already back in the Top 100.

This is also the eighth Masters 1000 quarterfinal of his career—he’s a one-time finalist (2018 Shanghai), a one-time semifinalist (2018 Indian Wells) and has reached another five quarterfinals before this (2016 Cincinnati, 2017 Madrid, 2018 Miami, 2019 Miami and, most recently, 2019 Monte Carlo).

Also, with his wins over No. 3 Nadal and No. 19 Bautista Agut this week, this is the sixth time in his career he’s beaten multiple Top 20 players at the same event.
