Simona Halep has won all of the biggest tournaments on clay—Madrid in 2016 and 2017, Rome in 2020 and the biggest one of them all, Roland Garros, in 2018.

And on Saturday she added another achievement to her already-phenomenal clay-court resume: Halep’s 6-3, 6-1 second-round victory over No. 2-ranked Paula Badosa in Madrid was her first career win over a Top 2 player on clay.

Before Saturday, her biggest career wins on clay came against a pair of No. 3s—Karolina Pliskova in the semifinals of Roland Garros in 2017, and Garbine Muguruza in the semifinals of Roland Garros in 2018.
