Tommy Paul had been on a giant-killing run in Paris, taking out three Top 20 players—including No. 2-ranked Rafael Nadal—en route to the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 event.

But that run came to an end on Friday, as No. 5-ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated the American in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, fighting off all seven break points he faced in the match—and converting all three of his own break point opportunities.

“It was a good match,” Tsitsipas said afterwards.

“I wish I could have maybe avoided some of the situations where I had to save break points, but I dealt with them very professionally, and I’m very happy I overcame those moments.”

And it was a milestone victory: Tsitsipas is the first man to record 60 wins this year, now 60-21 on the season.

MOST MATCH WINS FOR A MAN THIS YEAR (tour-level):

Tsitsipas is also the sixth active men’s player to record 60 or more wins in a season in their career, and just the third man born in 1990 or later to do it, after Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev.
