In a hard-fought clash between former Top 10 players, Stefanos Tsitsipas battled past Karen Khachanov in three sets in the second round in Dubai on Wednesday night, 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-4.

With that victory, Tsitsipas maintained his record of never falling before the quarterfinals at the ATP 500 event—he was a quarterfinalist in 2018, a finalist in 2019 (falling to Roger Federer), a finalist in 2020 (falling to Novak Djokovic) and now at least a quarterfinalist in 2025.

And there’s more: Tsitsipas’ victory against the former world No. 8 was the milestone 350th tour-level win of his career.

He’s the first man born in 1998 or later to hit that number.

MEN BORN IN 1990 OR LATER WITH 350+ WINS (tour-level):

  • 475: Alexander Zverev [born in 1997]
  • 462: Grigor Dimitrov [born in 1991]
  • 387: Daniil Medvedev [born in 1996]
  • 383: Milos Raonic [born in 1990]
  • 350: Stefanos Tsitsipas [born in 1998]

Not only is Tsitsipas the first man born in 1998 or later to reach 350 career wins, but he leads that age group by 80 wins—Jannik Sinner (born in 2001) is next with 270, with Casper Ruud (born in 1998) and Alex de Minaur (born in 1999) right behind with 268 and 262, respectively.

Tsitsipas is looking to capture the first ATP 500 title of his career in Dubai this week.

Tsitsipas is now 9-1 in his career against Khachanov, but the Russian definitely had his chances in this one—not only did he lead 5-3 in the first set, but then, after cruising through the second set, he had a break point at 2-all in the third set, too. But after nine straight holds to start the decider Tsitsipas pounced, breaking in the last game to close it out.

The final points count: Tsitsipas 103, Khachanov 104.

Up next for the former world No. 3 will be another former Top 10 player, Matteo Berrettini, who took out Australian qualifier Christopher O'Connell in his second-round match, 7-6 (2), 6-2.

Berrettini went as high as No. 6 in the world in 2022.

Tsitsipas leads Berrettini in their head-to-head, 3-1, though the Italian's only win did come in their most recent meeting, a 7-6 (6), 7-5 victory in the semifinals of the clay-court event in Gstaad, Switzerland last year.
