While Anna Kournikova is nowhere near the grounds of Roland Garros, or any tennis event for that matter, she is still drumming up news wherever she goes. Last week, news outlets were buzzing with reports that the 24-year-old Miami resident was single again, after a five-year relationship with pop crooner and Latin heartthrob, Enrique Iglesias.

Fuel was added to the fire when Kournikova attended two Hollywood events solo, prompting further speculation. Anna was spotted dining with her mother in a Miami restaurant during the same period.

As it happens, however, Iglesias was in Stockholm to promote his new album Insomniac and could not attend.

It was Iglesias who started the rumors when he jokingly told the media in Sweden that he was “single” and that “it’s okay,” throwing rumor mills into overdrive. He was responding to a reporter’s questions about whether he was married (it has been speculated that he and Kournikova married in a secret ceremony some time ago). The ‘joke’ was taken literally and headlines to that effect ensued.

Iglesias, who hooked up with Kournikova in 2002 after she starred in his steamy video for “Escape,” has since put the rumors to rest. He was quoted recently by HELLO! magazine saying that the former Wimbledon semifinalist was the only woman he could imagine as the mother of his children.

"It is the first serious relationship I've had in my life," he told the British mag.

While the couple are regular fixtures at Miami hotspots and basketball games, they maintain separate residences. And despite the rumors that they might be married, Iglesias is adamant that he is not ready to tie the knot just yet.
