Since the start of the Open Era, many teenagers have made their presence felt on the biggest stages in tennis. The first to do that was Bjorn Borg, who won the 1974 French Open when he was only 18 years old. Then it was Mats Wilander, who won the 1982 French Open when he was only 17. It was the first time he had ever played in the event, and he was the first player to accomplish such a feat.
Michael Chang, Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg, Pete Sampras and Rafael Nadal were some of the other players who won majors as teens. Like Wilander, Nadal won the 2005 French Open in his tournament debut. Those seven players weren't just one-hit wonders, though. By the end of 2018, those men had combined to win 61 Grand Slam titles. With Nadal still playing at an extremely high level, there should be some more added to that total.
