They might have to start calling it the United (States) Cup. For the second time in three years, Team USA has been crowned United Cup champions after a rousing 2-0 victory over Poland inside Sydney's Pat Rafter Arena on Sunday.

After Coco Gauff won a 6-4, 6-4 opening singles match against Iga Swiatek,Taylor Fritz delivered the title for the top-seeded Americans with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(4) win over Hubert Hurkacz in a serve-dominated match that featured 30 combined aces and just three break points.

"It's amazing. It's almost more fun to win the team events because you have people to celebrate with afterwards," Fritz said. "Coco made it easy for me as the MVP on the team; it definitely helped my job a lot and its great to get it a second time."

Gauff added: "It's great to win a team event, the only team event I've ever won, so I'm super excited."

Gauff, who was named MVP after an undefeated week, had lost 11 of her first 12 matches against Swiatek, but after adding coach Matt Daly to her team after last year's US Open, has now beaten her nemesis twice in a row after defateing her on the way to winning the WTA Finals last fall.

She got the upper hand in Sydney against Swiatek over a physical one hour and 52 minutes, a match which saw her win four of the last five games of the opening set, and come from a break down in the second set. Swiatek made 19 unforced errors in the opening set to Gauff's nine, and also took a medical timeout before serving to stay in the match.

"I have the belief that I'm one of the best players in the world and when I play good tennis I'm hard to beat," Gauff said. "Today I think I played some great tennis. I'm glad I was able to get a point for Team USA. It was tough today, I'm not gonna lie."

Gauff finished her United Cup debut with a 7-0 overall recod, scoring additional wins over Leylah Fernandez, Donna Vekic, Zhang Shuai and Karolina Muchova without the loss of a set. She partnered Fritz to two wins in mixed doubles as well.

After losing his opening match in the group stage to Felix Auger-Aliassime, Fritz won his last four matches, and came from a mini-break down in the final set tiebreak to beat Hurkacz. Both players won more than 80% of the points played behind their first serves, and the only break point Fritz faced in the match came when he was broken at love to lose the second set.
