LOS ANGELES, Nov. 12, 2024 – Tennis Channel, T2, the network app and website (www.tennischannel.com) will be the exclusive live and on-demand home of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals November 13-20. The event is the final stage of the annual yearlong “World Cup of Women’s Tennis,” and will determine the sport’s best nation in 2024. The action gets underway live from Malaga, Spain, Wednesday, Nov. 13, with a battle between Spain and Poland at 12 p.m. ET.
The United States is among the 12 countries that have reached this year’s finals. The Americans are Captained by Hall of Famer and Tennis Channel analyst Lindsay Davenport, who was part of the 1996, 1999 and 2000 cup-winning squads and had a combined record of 33-3 as a player, including a 7-0 doubles record. The team is set to play Slovakia on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 12 p.m. ET, with the winner advancing to face Australia on November 17. During the event’s history, the United States has won the cup a record 18 times.
The Billie Jean King Cup Finals features a single-elimination tournament with countries competing to advance in the bracket. Every head-to-head battle consists of two singles matches followed by a doubles contest, with each worth one point. The country that wins two matches will move to the next round. Four of the 12 nations have an automatic bye to the second-round quarterfinals. The champion will be crowned November 20 at 12 p.m. ET. Hall of Famers Tracy Austin (@thetracyaustin) and Pam Shriver (@PHShriver) will be on airduring Tennis Channel’s coverage of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals this year.Austin knows only championship outcomes from her playing days in the event, as her American teams won the crown in 1978, 1979 and 1980, the three years she competed. Shriver, one of the best doubles players of all time, participated on U.S. cup-winning teams in 1986 and 1989, and was 19-1 in singles and doubles during her time in the competition. They will be joined by Chanda Rubin(@Chanda_Rubin), who represented the U.S. five times and posted 7-3 singles and 1-0 doubles records. She was also part of the 1999 cup championship team. Shelby Rogers was on the doubles team that clinched the United States’ most recent championship in 2017, and rounds out Tennis Channel’s on-air team this week.
