Thanasi Kokkinakis, who has played just one singles match since 2015 because of shoulder surgery and other ailments, wants to return in Madrid.
The 21-year-old has a protected ranking of No. 81, giving him entry into qualifying at the Masters event.
"That’s the plan," he told Melbourne’s *Herald Sun* in an interview.
Kokkinakis played a single tournament in 2016 and then began a second comeback a few months ago in Brisbane, winning the doubles title but picking up another injury.
“It’s been a tough run,” he said. “It’s just a matter of getting the confidence back in the body. I need matches, and as soon as I’m ready to go, I want to be able to play."
Kokkinakis is training in Dubai.
