The Pick Wimby R2 Andreescu Rybakina

World No. 56 Bianca Andreescu’s return continues with a compelling match against world No. 23 Elena Rybakina in the second round of Wimbledon. Andreescu, a former world No. 3 and the 2019 US Open champion, is finally healthy after a series of injuries since her breakout season. Now, the 22-year-old is fit—and is looking to make a run at a tournament that she has a legitimate chance to win. Rybakina is a very good player in her own right, but is just 2-2 on grass in 2022; Andreescu meanwhile, nearly won the Bad Homburg tune-up.

When the Canadian is on her game, there aren’t many players in the world capable of beating her. There was a point in time in which many believed she was going to run through the WTA Tour, and she’s starting to show flashes of being that player again. (Seeing her against Iga Swiatek would be a fine litmus test.) It’s just a matter of whether or not she can stay healthy and fully rediscover her confidence.

Andreescu could make her presence felt in London with a convincing win over Rybakina, and we like her chances to prevail as a small favorite. She has all the power in the world, and will look to use her strength from both sides of the court to win quick points. However, Andreescu is the queen of playing three-set matches, which is why we think another bet is the better play.

While Andreescu’s game is rounding into form, she hasn’t exactly looked great when returning against top servers. That could come into play against Rybakina, who is impressive with the ball on her racquet. Andreescu also has just a 46.2% winning percentage on grass in her career; it's the only surface in which she doesn’t have a winning record.

With that in mind, this just shouldn’t be an easy win for the Canadian, and that’s why we like the Over on the game total here. Rybakina can either grab a set in this one, or just push one of them to a tiebreaker. That would have Over bettors sitting pretty.

The Pick: Over 21.5 Games (-130)
