Tomas Berdych, the top seed, lost one set en route to the final in three matches.

Early on, this match played out exactly as you thought it would, with Berdych taking control.

Actually, maybe not exactly as you thought—it's rare for anyone to win a 6-0 set in a final.

With nothing to lose—except for the title—Berlocq played a much better second set.

He broke serve late, won the set 7-5, and forced a decider.

What was more jarring, Berdych's pink shirt or Berlocq's ear-splitting grunts?

"The first set looks easy, but it doesn't show what was going on," Berdych said afterward.

Berdych couldn't recover from Berlocq's mid-match push and was broken four times in the third set.

"In the second set, when I changed my tactics I saw the ball better, committed less errors and it opened the door,'' Berlocq said.

When it was all over, Berlocq won his second career title in Oerias with an unconventional 0-6, 7-5, 6-1 score.

"It's a very strong, very beautiful feeling,'' the champion said.

It was all smiles, and champagne...

But even Tomas couldn't hide his disappointment with his miniature trophy in hand.

"Carlos is a big fighter and he completely changed his game, finding a way to win," said Berdych.

"It was a very special match for me," said Berlocq. "I didn't have any pressure to win and it's not my culture to conform to expectations. To win a title, and against a top-10 player, carries double merits. To close the match the way I did was very emotional.''
