The WTA Pre-Wimbledon party's best and worst dressed

The season's best WTA fashion showcase rolled out in London's Kensington borough on Thursday, with the tour's stars showing up despite the rain to glisten and shimmer in an array of stylish looks. In light of their impending destiny with one to 13 days of wearing solely white in the world's view, the WTA players staged a grand walkway replete with a number of sartorial hits and a few misses.

Looming large on this night: dramatic, photogenic off-the-shoulder(s) moments. Here's the Daily Spin's rundown of their "hooray"- and "hmm"-hemmed moments:

Bethanie Mattek-Sands looked ready for the Indianapolis 500's checkered carpet, and Christina McHale just looked happy to be witness to the fun.

Lucie Safarova donned a flirty wave of curls and a royal-blue, lace-y dress baring her shoulders and radiating beauty.

"Samesies!" Madison Keys and Sorana Cirstea sported similar looks in all-black with side-cutout illusions.

Serena Williams certainly wore the skirt of the night, and her overall appearance was that of the most regal gem in all of the Wimble-dom.

Feeling and looking fun, even mischievous, Belinda Bencic relished her incoming return to major play after sitting out from Roland Garros. This is how someone dresses their age with class.

Opting in for all-white this fortnight, Angelique Kerber let her beaming smile and statement necklace do the talking, which came off a bit blase from a textile standpoint. It's a testament to accessories saving the day.

Similarly, Simona Halep resorted to a simplistic white dress that washed out her complexion. The look was more or less flat as her hair.

Jelena Jankovic's peekaboo-midriff dress, also in white, helped this pillar of the WTA carry off more personality than the color calls for, as did her curvaceous hair. (Side note: Tennis stars' tan lines are wonderful things. So are spray tans.)

What was true for JJ held for Caroline Wozniacki as well. Fun hair, frown-y gown. Dear Woz, Anastasia Pavlychenkova, and everyone else: Just say no to beige.

Best Pose: Timea Bacsinszky's light blue dress and frisky follicles serve to amp up her dress's sort-of-matronly cut. In a word, bangs!

Best Dressed: Perhaps inspired by Beyoncé's look at this year's Met Gala, homegirl Heather Watson wore a daring latex dress with youthful straps on its back. In an unwitting metaphor for the impending deluge of "Brexit" voting returns, she paired that with a cheeky umbrella that fit her look perfectly.

Best Dressed, Honorable Mention: Sloane Stephens pulled off the librarian-chic look with aplomb, dressing for the occasion and location in a spry-but-serious style.

Worst Dressed: Daniela Hantuchova's blue was admirable, and she continued with her long line of famous mini-dress looks. The problem was that it came off, in the words of a friend, decidedly Real Housewives of Tampa. We get it, it's her thing, her signature. That doesn't make it good.

Best Shoes: In a sedated yellow frock, Laura Robson won the shoe game on the night and also wore her forever-winsome smile. (There may be no better display of white this Wimbledon than Robson flashing those famous pearls.)

Best Arm Candy: A sunny and cheerful Donna Vekic brought he-friend Stan Wawrinka along, and his accent-color tie aided the pair in their quest to take top couple honors. Because who doesn't enjoy an accessory that literally breathes?

Best MIA Style: Away from the WTA Party on this night, Venus Williams still took a plunge of sorts in a gorgeous emerald dress as she mingled among a private design event's guests back in the Hamptons.

Ladies in Red: Ana Ivanovic, Genie Bouchard, and Petra Kvitova all wore shades of rouge on their respective frocks, and each looked the portrait of excellence. Says here that Ivanovic came out the winner, looking most relaxed and at home in her dress. Plus, the Spin is partial to gowns featuring pockets, and Ivanovic posed with hers like the runway veteran she is. (Side note: Some style advisors should stop victimizing their clients with heavy makeup. The guilty know exactly who they are.)

Fresh off her French Open championship, Garbine Muguruza got fringe-y and winky with her see-through WTA Party look, channeling Catherine Zeta-Jones circa The Mask of Zorro era.

Elina Svitolina blew a kiss to the camera and got on with her night of frolicking in a pretty, simple dress with over-sized polka dots.

The WTA's it-girl blogger, Nicole Gibbs, sported a slinky, backless dress that didn't get in the way of her major-winning grin.
