Every morning of the French Open, we'll take a look back at a memorable match that occurred on that calendar day at Roland Garros.

In a battle of former French Open champions, the 10th-seeded Henin swept the 21st-seeded Pierce off the court in a merciless, 61-minute master class. It was the most lopsided Grand Slam final since Steffi Graf's 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Natasha Zvereva in the 1988 French Open final. Illness and injury had limited Henin to nine tournaments in 2004, but she bounced back in 2005, collecting her fourth Grand Slam title in her last seven major appearances.

Pierce held to open the match, giving the French fans a brief moment of joy. Henin then overwhelmed her in a clinical display of speed, power, and precision, reeling off nine straight games to put the final out of reach. Henin defeated four former Grand Slam champions—Conchita Martinez, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Maria Sharapova, and Pierce—in her seven-match run at Roland Garros. In registering her 24th-straight victory, the Belgian with the brilliant one-handed backhand capped a clay-court season of perfection, during which she captured four consecutive championships: Charleston, Warsaw, Berlin, and Paris.
