If you’re tempted to think that only the women indulge in extended tennis grunts, you’ve probably never seen, or heard, Brazil’s Dutra Silva on one of his loud days—his groan might resound through Court Philippe Chatrier tomorrow. Will he have success doing anything else? Not if we go by what happened the last time these two met. It was at the US Open in 2012, and Djokovic won in three lopsided sets.

Dutra Silva’s heavy topspin is better suited to clay than hard courts, and Djokovic, despite his Roman renaissance last week, is still not the player he was six years ago. But he’s probably past the point where he will struggle to get through this one. Winner: Djokovic

You remember these two, right? They were two of the WTA’s fastest starters of 2018. Wozniacki won the Australian Open and ascended to No. 1, while Collins emerged from oblivion to beat Madison Keys at Indian Wells and Venus Williams in Miami. Since then, they’ve both been pretty quiet. Wozniacki struggled to get past the middle rounds at the clay-tune-up events this spring, while Collins, like most young Americans on a European adventure, spent most of her energy just qualifying for those tournaments.

Who is more likely to turn things around in Paris? The first meeting between the Dane and the American will depend on how Collins reacts to the cavernous confines of Chatrier and it’s all-eyes-on-you atmosphere. She can out-hit Wozniacki, who has never been a clay-lover herself, but can she do it over and over again? Collins has surprised us before this year at home, but it will be tougher to do it on the road. Winner: Wozniacki

Who has the advantage? Querrey is 30 years old, ranked No. 13, and has lost his last four matches, two of them in soul-crushing third-set tiebreakers. Tiafoe is 20 year old, ranked No. 61, and surprised many by reaching a clay-court final this spring in Estoril. The veteran from California and the up-and-comer from Maryland have never faced each other, but they could make for an interesting match-up: on one side we’ll see Querrey’s brute power; on the other we’ll see Tiafoe’s blazing speed.

Neither will be at their best on clay, but hopefully they’ve spent too much time in Europe not to give this one last match on dirt the best they have. Winner: Querrey
