Jarkko Nieminen has defeated Bernard Tomic in the shortest match in ATP history. The Finn beat Tomic, 6-0, 6-1 in just over 28 minutes in the first round of Miami on Thursday, taking the first nine games of the contest.
The previous record was set in 1996, when Greg Rusedski won 6-0, 6-0 over Carsten Arriens in 29 minutes in Sydney.
Tomic was playing his first match since undergoing hip surgeries after the Australian Open. He was originally scheduled to return at Monte Carlo, but appeared in Miami this week.
"This was the first match back after the operation. It's all part of the rehabilitation process," he said.
"I'm not disappointed. I just have to keep working to improve my game."
