With the destination of the Davis Cup determined, the professional tennis season has come to a close. Thus, we begin our look back at 2017, a memorable year on and off the court. Our Top 10 On-Court Moments, and our Top 10 Off-Court Moments, will remind you of everything that transpired.
If there's any change tournaments should be considering, it's building bigger daycare facilities. The wave of players having kids began in 2016 with Victoria Azarenka and Taylor Fritz, and really got rolling when Serena Williams, unbeknownst to the public, won the Australian Open four weeks pregnant. She wouldn't play again for the rest of the season, but still took the top spot in this department by having her first child and then a lavish wedding to cap the season's other big rush of players saying ‘I do.'
Among the new parents were Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, both having their second child, and several others including Mandy Minella, the now retired Jarmila Wolfe, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Fabio Fognini, Paul-Henri Mathieu, Steve Darcis, Nicolas Almagro and Viktor Troicki. It doesn't look like it'll be slowing down, either—the now retired Ana Ivanovic has just announced that she is expecting her first child.
There were also plenty of players joining Serena Williams in tying the knot—Agnieszka Radwanska's wedding was another prominent affair, with Caroline Wozniacki and Angelique Kerber among the guests.
Andrea Hlavackova, Yanina Wickmayer and Julien Benneteau also had their weddings during the mid-season lull, bracketed by Jeremy Chardy and Ryan Harrison. Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Federico Delbonis chose the offseason, and Fernando Verdasco is also set to join them.
And stay tuned—Wozniacki recently announced that she is engaged to former NBA player David Lee.
