Top 5 Photos, 10/8: Kenin, Swiatek to vie for Paris title

Only two more competitors remain on the women's side after an unusual two weeks filled with challenges and upsets. Iga Swiatek and Sofia Kenin each won in straight sets on Thursday to reach their final destination. Only one will score a perfect landing on Saturday and take home the Suzanne-Lenglen cup.

Sofia Kenin

The American came through on the critical moments to post a 6-4, 7-5 victory over No. 7 seed Petra Kvitova. Kenin didn't wait for Kvitova to make mistakes, but took matters into her own hands by going for bold shots. With a win on Saturday, Kenin will become the first player since Angelique Kerber in 2016 to claim two Grand Slam titles in one year.

Petra Kvitova

The world No.  11 didn't get the result she hoped for, but it was still a successful fortnight for the Czech who hadn't reached the Paris semifinal in eight years. Kvitova is holding her head up high as she exits Paris.

"For me, just to be in the semifinal here in the Grand Slam, it's something real special," she said. "Even though loss is painful, which is normal and should be like this, I'm very happy how everything went."

Iga Swiatek

The 19-year-old wasn't on anyone's radar coming into Paris after taking losses to Victoria Azarenka, Christina McHale and Arantxa Rus. Swiatek has quickly changed that narrative as she steamrolled through the Roland Garros draw without dropping a single set.

On Thursday, she cruised past qualifier Nadia Podoroska, 6-2, 6-1, to become the first Polish woman in the Open era to reach the Paris final.

Nadia Podoroska

What an incredible fortnight it's been for Podoroska. The qualifier claimed eight consecutive matches at Roland Garros, including a shocking upset over No. 3  seed Elina Svitolina and became the first women's qualifier to reach the semifinals of Roland Garros. Podoroska is extremely happy with her results in Paris.

"No, of course, is going to change my ranking, the tournaments that I'm going to play since now. But not my life. I'm going to be the same person," Podoroska said.

Up Next...

On Friday the action returns with the men's semifinal action kicking off. Hitting the court first will be No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal against No. 12 seed Diego Schwartzman, the latter of which playing in his first major semifinal. Following that match, world No. 1 Novak Djokovic will square off against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
