Top-seeded Kirilenko advances at Guangzhou Open

GUANGZHOU, China (AP)—Top-seeded Maria Kirilenko advanced to the second round of the Guangzhou Open by beating Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine 6-4, 6-2 Tuesday.

Second-seeded Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia also advanced, beating Han Xinyun of China 6-2, 6-1. But fifth-seeded Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia lost to Tetiana Luzhanska of Ukraine 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4), and sixth-seeded Alberta Brianti of Italy was beaten by Zheng Jie of China 7-6 (3), 6-4.
