At the Asian Games, Taiwan defeated Japan 2-1 in the women's semifinals behind victories by Chang Kai-chen over Ayumi Morita (7-5, 3-6, 6-2) and Chuang Chia-jung and Hsieh Su-wei over Morita and Kimiko Date Krumm (6-4, 6-1). Taiwan will face China in the final.
The Taiwanese men are also through to the final, even though Wimbledon quarterfinalist Lu Yen-hsun had to pull out of the tournament with a back injury. Taiwan’s Yang Tsung-hua beat India’s Krishan Singh, then teamed with Yi Chu-huan to beat Krishan Singh and Somdev Devvarman (6-4, 7-6 (1)). Taiwan will face Uzbekistan in the final.
