Two-time champ Nadal says grass is longer than usual at Wimbledon

LONDON—Rafael Nadal says he finds the grass slightly longer than usual at Wimbledon, though according to officials it has been kept the same length.

"I think the grass on Wimbledon, here, this year I see the grass a little longer than usual," Nadal told press before the tournament. "I don't know if because there is unbelievable weather and they are trying to protect the grass like this."

In 2017, hot weather in the run up to the tournament saw the courts get more worn during the first week. This time, it has again been warm in Britain during the run up to the Championships.

The specified length of the grass-courts is 8mm.

Wimbledon's chief groundsman, Neil Stubley, said they were the same length as usual, but noted that the practice courts could be more trodden as they had been played on for longer.

Nadal practiced on both the practice courts and on a play court on the day of his comments.
